Our client operates in the mineral resources space. Due to large growth they are searching for a Business Lead: Modular & Pre-Engineered. Managing a team of Project Engineers, Project Managers, Administration and Cost Control as part of project deliver, this Cape Town based leadership role will be critical to strategic business success. Reporting to the Managing Director and a key liaison with their valued clients, the Business Lead Modular and Pre-Engineered is the responsible custodian of the Company’s small to larger sized plant module delivery business.
Responsibilities:
- Establish and maintain as wide a range as possible of contacts with existing and potential clients within the modular sphere across a wide range on minerals in order to maximise new business development.
- Efficient and effective project management, (design, engineering and cost control) to maximise company returns on projects whilst ensuring that the historical reputation of ADP is upheld.
- Achieve productive upgrades to the “standard” modules to suit industry requirements and embrace OEM innovations where relevant to maintain the constant improvement approach.
- Management of modular projects from ensuring that the correct process solution is being offered, optimal costing is prepared, timeous proposal presentation is achieved and, if successful, preparation and sign-off of contracts.
Requirements: Qualification and Skill
- Possess Tertiary qualification in Extractive Metallurgy, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering.
- Hold 15+ years, preferably with a project house or OEM, in minerals processing and/or related industries.
- Demonstrated success driving performance with technical teams
- Successful experience in business development and driving organic business growth
- Proven ability to influence decision making and build relationships across diverse cultures
- Knowledge and understanding of extractive processes and the classical design development protocols to be followed
- Understanding of ISO 9001 requirements

- Minimum of 7 years’ experience in construction of power plants (technology based), preferably for PV and/or BESS plants.

- Manage the TSA and BOP, suppliers and consultants during the construction phase to ensure completion of the project within time, budget and quality as per the TSA and BOP contracts.
- Manage the O&M Contracts (LTSA and O&M BOP).
- Manage the following agreements: PPA (Power Purchase Agreement) signed with Eskom, Eskom Budget Quote, DuCOSA, Self-Build Agreement and other relevant agreements if required by the Portfolio Project Manager.
- Support the Asset Management, when required, on other signed agreements (ie: CTA Agreement with the banks, Implementation Agreement, etc.).
- Be compliant with the Asset Management signed contract with the project company.
- Respect compliance of the Economic Developments under the Implementation Agreement.
- Manage the project team (Project Engineer, Construction Manager, Site Superintendent, Health and Safety Manager, Environmental Manager, Quality Manager, Commissioning Manager, etc…) before, during, and after the construction phase.
- Direct internal operations to achieve project budgeted results and other financial criteria, and to preserve the capital funds invested in the project.
- Ensure that all the relevant insurances, permits and contracts remain in full force during the construction of the facility.
- Ensure that the project is going to be designed and built-in in accordance with law and all relevant permits (EIA, EMPr, water authorisation, building permits, etc.
- Managing relationships with landowners and the local community.
- Perform on-site inspections for quality of workmanship, quality of materials, conformity with plans & specifications, code compliance, on-site safety, project schedule vs progress, and general progress of the construction project.
- Maintain observation reports/logs including work description, work methods, contractors on site, weather conditions, observations, photos, etc.
- Attend, or conduct, periodic construction progress meetings with the TSA and BOP contractors.
- Review progress billings from the TSA and BOP contractors and when required, negotiate revisions.
- Issue an Internal Report and Monthly Report to the Owner by highlighting progress, risks and opportunities and any other main information pertinent to the project.
- Review and assess if each of the contract milestones have been achieved and prepare and issue the relevant certificate duly signed.
- Ensure all the TSA and BOP contract requirements are fulfilled before the final completion is released.

- Manage and lead the projects throughout the Execution phase (from PPA to COD), by effectively managing all relevant stakeholders and delivering the projects in time and within budget.
- Enforcing change management (MoC) policies.
- Actively manage HSE and quality standards within the projects and ensure EPC’s are adhering strictly to company policies.
- Effectively managing the project team and developing team members in the job.
- Building Africa project teams with the MD Africa.
- Participate as required on-site during development and execution activities, particularly for client and stakeholder engagement and supervision of technical activities and HSE. Collaborating across functions to achieve team goals.
- Ensuring smooth handover to Operations.
- Providing structured progress reports to MD Africa.
- Fostering a hands-on, positive attitude to drive projects.
- Being an ambassador for the company and actively support Business development and new opportunities.
- Ensuring disciplined IT system use, including Asana, Office 365, Slack.
- Ensuring compliance with company policies and safety regulations.
- Maintaining company data and technical confidentiality.
Requirements: Qualification and Skill
- Travel periodically throughout the African region to project sites.
- Bachelors Degree in Engineering; Electrical or Civil preferred.
- Proven experience in building and construction of Microgrids would be highly advantageous.
