Job Description:
Our client is looking for a Green Systems Engineer to play a pivotal role in advancing decarbonization efforts within the mining sector. This position involves modeling and analyzing an Integrated Energy Balance (IEB) across the entire value chain, contributing to the design and operation of decarbonized mining systems. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in renewable energy systems and mining energy demands, collaborating with key stakeholders to align planning processes and operational objectives. This role offers the opportunity to shape sustainable solutions critical to achieving environmental goals.
Responsibilities:
- Establish and maintain relationships with various teams and departments involved in planning and projects to define technical requirements for analyses aimed at optimizing infrastructure investments and developing "energy-aware" plans.
- Conduct analyses using an integrated energy balance model to support infrastructure investment and operational planning decisions for decarbonization.
- Communicate user requirements to the development team to facilitate the delivery of functionality essential for informed decision-making.
- Transfer knowledge and build capability within other functions to support the implementation and operation of decarbonization infrastructure.
- Validate inputs from collaborating teams and outputs generated by energy planning systems.
- Provide user training on the integrated energy balance model and related applications
Requirements: Qualification and Skill
- A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Proven experience in developing models, analyzing and optimizing in a mining and/or power grid context
- Proficiency with optimization techniques and tools appropriate for optimizing simulations of dynamic systems
- Familiarity working industry standard Power system models (e.g. PLEXOS) is advantageous
- Expertise in analyzing large scale data sets to inform business decisions
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python is advantageous
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Solid understanding of renewable power supply and/or energy demand in a mining context, including factors influencing variability.
